The fifth generation of the SEAT Ibiza is, without a doubt, "the best Ibiza of all time". Developed in Barcelona on a totally new platform, it has the most advanced technology, a strong character and great agility.
The world launch of the Ibiza V took place at the prestigious Geneva Motor Show in 2017, in March, and it went on sale from June. By then, SEAT’s Ibiza was already a success story, with 5.4 million units built of the previous four generations (the best-selling SEAT in history).
The year before, SEAT had unveiled the Ateca, the brand’s first SUV, and with the Ibiza V completely renewed another of its brand pillars. Since its launch in 1984, the Ibiza had become a SEAT icon, and the brand went all out to design the fifth generation.
Designed, developed and produced in Barcelona, at the Technical Centre and the Martorell plant, the new Ibiza premiered a totally new platform within the VW Group, the MQB-A0. This made it possible to provide the car with a great technological content, exceptional road holding and a magnificent habitability, comfort and boot capacity.
Ibiza’s silhouette oozed an unmistakable SEAT DNA. The Ibiza V is clearly inspired by the 2015 SEAT 20V20 concept-car, with the characteristic Full LED triangular headlights and the body’s dual blister on the sides.
However, it was only available as a 5-door car, while the previous Ibiza IV was offered with 3- and 5-door bodies, and even an ST estate version. The new Ibiza has not had CUPRA versions either, as there have been in the previous three generations. When CUPRA was launched as an independent brand in 2018, the prototype of a future CUPRA Ibiza was shown, which has remained as a unique one-off that is preserved in the Nave A122.
Thus, the top-of-the-range and sportiest version of the Ibiza V is the Ibiza FR. This unit of the SEAT HISTÓRICOS Collection is precisely a 2019 Ibiza FR, in Desirée Red colour, used for the exhibition at motor shows and that has never been registered. In 2021, the Ibiza V received a mid-life restyling, focused mainly on the interior and keeping the brilliant body line unchanged.
